A government grant that pays for practical support โ including assistive technology, software and equipment โ so disabled people can start or stay in work. It is not means-tested.

Local authorities (England & Wales)
A means-tested council grant for essential home adaptations โ ramps, stairlifts, accessible bathrooms and wider doorways โ so a disabled person can live safely and independently at home.

Student Finance England (and devolved equivalents)
Extra higher-education funding for students with a disability or long-term condition, covering assistive technology, software and specialist support. It does not have to be repaid.

Motability Scheme
Lets people exchange their mobility allowance to lease a car, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle, powered wheelchair or mobility scooter, with insurance and servicing included.

NHS Wheelchair Services
NHS
NHS wheelchair services assess mobility needs and can provide a manual or powered wheelchair and cushion, or a Personal Wheelchair Budget toward one, free of charge.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

A non-means-tested benefit that helps with the extra costs of a long-term disability or health condition. The money can go toward assistive technology, and the mobility component unlocks the Motability Scheme.
